Expert wound assessment and closure for cuts, lacerations, and deep skin wounds with same-day urgent care stitches across Los Angeles
Cuts and lacerations are among the most common reasons people seek urgent care for cuts near me. Whether your wound was caused by a knife, broken glass, a fall, or a workplace accident, getting proper laceration treatment near me is essential for preventing infection, minimizing scarring, and healing correctly. At Mederi Urgent Care in the Los Angeles area, our experienced medical providers assess every wound and determine the right closure method, including urgent care stitches, tissue adhesive, or wound closure strips, and treat you right away without the long wait times of an emergency room.
Lacerations are jagged or irregular skin tears, while cuts tend to have clean, straight edges. Both can vary widely in depth and severity. Some minor cuts can be managed at home with direct pressure and bandaging, while others, especially those that are deep, gaping, bleeding heavily, or located on the face, hands, or joints, require professional wound care at urgent care. Our team evaluates wound depth, length, contamination level, and location to recommend the most appropriate cut treatment at urgent care and reduce the risk of complications such as infection and scarring.
On-site X-ray imaging is available at all Mederi Urgent Care locations, which allows our providers to detect embedded foreign objects such as glass or metal fragments that may not be visible from the surface. After wound closure, we provide detailed aftercare instructions, assess tetanus immunization status, and schedule follow-up appointments if needed. Schedule a visit at an open Mederi Urgent Care clinic for same-day urgent care laceration repair.
HOW LACERATION TREATMENT WORKS
Wound Assessment
Your provider begins with a thorough assessment of the cut or laceration, examining its depth, length, location, and whether any foreign material may be present. We check blood flow, nerve function, and tendon involvement around the wound. On-site X-rays are available immediately if embedded fragments are suspected, ensuring a complete evaluation before any urgent care stitches or closure are placed.
Wound Cleaning and Closure
We thoroughly irrigate and clean the wound to remove debris and bacteria before any laceration treatment near me is performed. Depending on wound characteristics, we close using the most appropriate method, which may include sutures (stitches), tissue adhesive (skin glue), staples, or wound closure strips. Each closure method is selected to promote optimal healing and minimize visible scarring.
Aftercare and Follow-Up
We provide detailed wound care instructions, address tetanus vaccination status, and prescribe antibiotics if there is a risk of infection. We inform you when and where to return for suture or staple removal and what signs of infection to watch for. Most patients receiving urgent care for cuts or lacerations are treated and discharged within 45 to 60 minutes.
COMPREHENSIVE CUTS AND LACERATIONS CARE
Laceration Repair and Sutures (Stitches)
Standard suture placement for wounds requiring formal closure. Our providers use absorbable and non-absorbable sutures based on wound depth and location. Urgent care stitches provide the strongest closure and are recommended for deep lacerations, wounds under tension, and injuries on the hands, face, or joints. Suture removal is available at all Mederi locations.
Tissue Adhesive (Skin Glue)
Dermabond and similar tissue adhesives are an effective, pain-free alternative to urgent care stitches for clean, superficial lacerations in low-tension areas. Skin glue is fast, waterproof, and eliminates the need for a follow-up removal visit. Our providers determine whether your wound is a suitable candidate for tissue adhesive during the wound assessment.
Wound Irrigation and Cleaning
Thorough wound irrigation with sterile saline under pressure is the most important step in preventing infection after urgent care for cuts. We remove embedded debris, bacteria, and contamination before any closure is performed. Proper wound cleaning significantly reduces the risk of wound infection and promotes faster, healthier healing.
Foreign Body Detection and Removal
Our on-site digital X-ray equipment detects radiopaque foreign bodies such as glass, metal fragments, and gravel embedded in wound tissue. Removing foreign material before wound closure is critical, as retained foreign bodies cause chronic infection and wound failure. We remove accessible foreign objects and refer appropriately when surgical extraction is required.
Wound Closure Strips and Steri-Strips
For minor cuts and superficial lacerations that do not require urgent care stitches or sutures, adhesive wound closure strips provide support as the skin heals. These are ideal for low-tension areas, small clean cuts, and as a supplement after suture removal to reinforce the healing wound edge during recovery.
Tetanus Assessment and Vaccination
All penetrating wounds and lacerations carry a risk of tetanus if vaccination status is not current. We review immunization history and administer a tetanus booster (Td or Tdap) on-site when indicated. Tetanus prophylaxis is an essential part of complete cut treatment at urgent care and is available at every Mederi Urgent Care location.

I was very fortunate to stumble across this gem of an urgent care facility. Extremely clean, tidy and staffed with user-friendly, proffessional receptionist Lauren/nurse-xray tech Landon and attending provider Lily. All three set me at ease and were wonders at their jobs. Dr. Lily was bang-on in her assessment of my fast moving foot infection, and quickly directed me to where I needed to get optimal treatment. Landon sent my x-rays where they needed to be asap. Lauren was an absolute sweetheart in keeping the waiting area moving smoothly as well as keeping incoming patients (myself included!!) informed and calm. This is the place to be, my friends, when a medical issue enters your life! Thank you Dr. Lily, Landon and Lauren big time!
Go to urgent care for cuts and lacerations that are bleeding but manageable with direct pressure, are not involving major blood vessels or tendons, and do not affect the neck or torso at depth. Go to the emergency room immediately if there is pulsing or spurting arterial bleeding that does not slow with pressure, if a tendon or bone is visible in the wound, or if the injury resulted from a high-force impact such as a motor vehicle collision. Our team is available at 213-442-1890 to help you assess the severity of any wound before your visit.
