ABOUT ELECTRIC SHOCK AND LIGHTNING STRIKE EVALUATION
Same-day cardiac monitoring and wound care for minor electrical contact injuries in Los Angeles
Electric shock evaluation provides a fast, thorough way to confirm your safety after a minor electrical contact. At Mederi Urgent Care in Los Angeles, California, our medical providers offer complete evaluation for minor electrical contact injuries, including 12-lead EKG monitoring, burn wound assessment, neurological screening, and vital signs monitoring throughout your visit.
An electrical injury occurs when current passes through the body after contact with a power source. Even low-voltage household current (120 volts from a standard outlet or appliance) can cause cardiac rhythm changes, peripheral nerve effects, and thermal burns at the entry and exit sites. Many of these effects are not immediately visible, which is why a prompt medical evaluation is important even when you feel well after the contact.
Whether you briefly touched a faulty outlet, received a shock from a household appliance, experienced a minor workplace electrical contact, or are a bystander who was exposed to secondary effects from a nearby electrical event, our team provides the appropriate evaluation with results and a clear clinical plan before you leave.
Schedule a walk-in visit or book online at an open Mederi Urgent Care clinic for same-day electrical injury evaluation. No appointment is required.
HOW ELECTRIC SHOCK EVALUATION WORKS
Report the Incident
Tell us what happened the voltage source (household outlet, appliance, power tool, or extension cord), how long the contact lasted, and any symptoms you noticed immediately after: tingling, pain, muscle contraction, or dizziness. No detail is too small. Our provider uses this history to determine the right evaluation pathway for your specific exposure.
Cardiac and Wound Assessment
We perform a 12-lead EKG on arrival to check for arrhythmia or conduction changes caused by electrical current. Entry and exit wound sites are examined for thermal burns. Vital signs are monitored throughout your visit. Most minor contact injuries from household current require a single EKG and a brief observation period before clearance.
Treatment Plan and Safe Discharge
If your EKG is normal and symptoms have resolved, our provider documents the injury, dresses any superficial burns, and discharges you with written aftercare instructions including specific warning signs to watch for and when to return. If findings suggest a higher-risk exposure, we coordinate a transfer to the appropriate level of care. You leave with a clear plan either way.
COMPREHENSIVE ELECTRIC SHOCK EVALUATION SERVICES
12-Lead EKG Monitoring
The most important test after any electrical contact. Electrical current passing through the body can disrupt the heart's natural rhythm. We perform a 12-lead EKG on arrival to detect arrhythmia or conduction abnormalities before they progress. Available at all five Mederi locations.
Electrical Burn Assessment
Electrical burns are often more extensive beneath the skin than they appear at the contact site. Our providers assess entry and exit wound depth, surrounding tissue involvement, and the estimated current path. This determines whether on-site wound care is appropriate or whether specialist evaluation is needed.
Neurological Screening
Tingling, numbness, weakness, or altered sensation after electrical contact may signal peripheral nerve involvement. We screen motor and sensory function at the injury site and along the estimated current path. Any neurological changes are documented for your discharge record and follow-up care.
Wound Care and Dressing
Superficial burns at the contact site are cleaned, treated with appropriate topical agents, and dressed before discharge. You receive written wound care instructions specific to the burn location and depth, along with guidance on when to return or seek a higher level of care.
Vital Signs Monitoring
Blood pressure, pulse, oxygen saturation, and temperature are recorded on arrival and monitored throughout the observation period. Abnormal trends prompt further evaluation before you are cleared for discharge. Our goal is to confirm stability, not just treat the visible injury.
Specialist Referral Coordination
If your evaluation reveals findings beyond urgent care scope, we document the clinical picture and coordinate transfer or specialist follow-up.

I was very fortunate to stumble across this gem of an urgent care facility. Extremely clean, tidy and staffed with user-friendly, proffessional receptionist Lauren/nurse-xray tech Landon and attending provider Lily. All three set me at ease and were wonders at their jobs. Dr. Lily was bang-on in her assessment of my fast moving foot infection, and quickly directed me to where I needed to get optimal treatment. Landon sent my x-rays where they needed to be asap. Lauren was an absolute sweetheart in keeping the waiting area moving smoothly as well as keeping incoming patients (myself included!!) informed and calm. This is the place to be, my friends, when a medical issue enters your life! Thank you Dr. Lily, Landon and Lauren big time!
Electric shock evaluation refers to the medical assessment performed after a person makes contact with an electrical current. At Mederi Urgent Care, this includes a 12-lead EKG to check cardiac rhythm, examination of any burn sites at the entry and exit points, neurological screening for nerve effects, and vital signs monitoring. The goal is to confirm that the electrical exposure did not cause internal injury that is not yet visible or felt.
